2010 SEET Technology Workshop

Held at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, CO

Professional development opportunity for high school and community college ENERGY TECHNOLOGY INSTRUCTORS

2010 SEET Technology Workshop participants

Application for the 2011 SEET Technology Workshop will be available here on Aug. 31, 2010.

Overview of NREL facilities in CO

The 2010 SEET Technology Workshop was held at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colorado on June 20 - July 1, 2010. The workshop focused on content designed to use energy resources more efficiently, including renewable energy. The workshop provides small-group presentations and discussion with NREL research scientists; hands-on, inquiry-based lab experiences; take-home equipment and training; and site visits and field work. The workshop participants produced instructional materials, identified teaching and learning strategies and materials, and will join the established SEET peer network to share learning with high school and two-year college educators in an online energy resources clearinghouse.

Deliverable/outcome

Detail

Due

Contribute to group’s recommended resources list.

To be shared in a resource clearinghouse

Pre-workshop

Contribute a recommended instructional material.

For example, core curriculum, classroom activity, syllabus, lesson plan, etc. to be shared in a resource clearinghouse

Pre-workshop

Develop & present group activity.

Groups to be determined. Activity is to develop one or more model curricula for different types of energy technology programs (e.g., solar PV technician, energy auditor/assessor, energy-efficient building construction, etc.) that may be implemented in a school & shared in a resource clearinghouse. Activity starts during workshop, finishes through online group communication.

50% complete by end of workshop; 100% complete by end of fall semester 2010

Participate in two follow-up group meetings.

Online meetings after the workshop

Oct 2010 & Jan  2011

Report on implementation of workshop-to-classroom learning.

Sustainable energy learning from the workshop implemented in the classroom

End of 2010 fall semester

Provide student impact information.

For class(es) taught & workshop dissemination activities through documented pre- & post-testing, surveys, etc.

End of 2010 fall semester

Perform two dissemination activities.

Conduct a “train-the-trainer” type activity following the workshop, to disseminate SEET learning to peers (local, regional, and/or national)

Thru Dec 2010

Provide workshop and project evaluations.

Written & online surveys, online group meeting

End of workshop & Jan 2011

Participant support provided by grant:
